Humanin and SHLPs: circulating clues, not a longevity drug
Small humanin-like peptides show up in aging-biology papers. Association is not a prescription.
Humanin and small humanin-like peptides (SHLPs) are MDPs studied for effects on apoptosis, metabolism and stress resistance in cells and animals. Some observational papers report that circulating humanin differs by age or disease.
What that kind of paper can say
It can say a peptide *correlates* with a trait, or that adding it to a dish or a mouse changes a marker. It cannot say that a person should take a research-chemical analog to live longer.
What 2025–2026 did not deliver
There was no definitive human RCT establishing humanin or a SHLP as a geroprotective medicine. Contrast that with the regulated path elamipretide took for a rare mitochondrial disease: specific indication, specific product, remaining confirmatory work.
Bottom line
Evidence ladder: In vitro / Animal, plus human association studies. Interesting biology; not a consumer longevity protocol.
